Matt Steinbrenner
Hey there, I'm Matt. As a kid, I loved playing with Legos, building dioramas out of shoe boxes, and making one hell of a Christmas village for my mom each year. I've been fortunate enough to take those childhood hobbies and turn them into a (very fun) career. Now I get to do what I love every day - create environments that transport an audience and tell a story.
I've worked in live TV, primarily in awards shows and TV specials, for nearly 20 years. In that time, I've been honored with an Emmy Award for my Art Direction work as well as receiving several Art Director’s Guild Awards and Emmy nominations. TV Design credits include: 2023 and upcoming 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, Ben Platt Live at the Palace! Residency + 2024 Honeymind North American Tour, 2023 and 2024 NBCUniversal Upfront at Radio City, Miley Cyrus’ Stand By You, the Director’s Guild of America Awards, Performances on the MTV VMAs and Europe Music Awards, and GRAMMY Salute to Music Legends. Highlights from my TV Art Direction credits include: The 2020 Democratic National Convention; Academy Awards (2 years - multiple ADG Awards); MTV Video Music Awards (12 years); GRAMMY Awards (2012 Emmy Award winner); MTV Europe Music Awards in Seville, Spain; Budapest, Hungary; and Dusseldorf, Germany; Elton John at The White House, Biden-Harris Election Night Celebration and Inauguration; Billboard Music Awards; Madonna at BBMA (2019); Miss Universe China Pageant in Beijing, China; CNN Heroes (Emmy nominated) and the Super Bowl XLI Half-Time Show starring Prince.
In addition to my work in television, I’ve designed theatrical shows in London, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles, including a custom theater renovation that integrated the show set into the space permanently (Baz at the Palazzo, Las Vegas) and the world’s largest Spiegeltent currently being fabricated in Belgium. I was also honored to be a keynote speaker at the inaugural Production Talks conference in Istanbul, Turkey.
